HIKURI Espresso Bar is a specialty espresso bar and micro-roaster at Lavington Corner Mall. It buys coffee directly from Kenyan smallholder farmers and roasts it in-house. The space is small, intimate and artsy, with rotating photography exhibitions by local artists, vinyl records playing in the background and pastries baked fresh every day. Wi-Fi and indoor seating make it a good spot for a quiet coffee, a date or an hour of work. The menu covers the espresso classics, from a 300-shilling espresso to flat whites and lattes at 400, plus chai lattes, organic matcha and a signature tea blend. For coffee lovers there is a rotating line-up of single-origin pour-overs in natural, washed and honey processes, and for something sweet, artisan gelato and affogato. Bring your own cup and takeaway drinks are 10% off.
"What a pleasing and welcoming environment 😌 My friend Sam and I had the pleasure of visiting Hikuri Espresso Bar, and during the entire time, the hospitality and kindness made us feel right at home. The team were generous with their time, knowledge and service, and this left us genuinely touched. The playlist was a beautiful, thoughtful curation and my friend enjoyed it enough to Shazam the songs 😁. We tried their espresso, latte and cookies, and each was a treat. The espresso is bold and satisfying if you like your coffee strong while the latte is smooth, balanced and easy to enjoy. Overall, we couldn't have asked for a better experience, and we left feeling great. I can't recommend this place enough. "I've been here three times (in the same week). The coffee is phenomenal, including the single source beans which I took home. The baristas are amazing, like Spring Valley's best people. I've only eaten cookies, which I think are The Good Grain, but not sure. The main area inside is a nice stop and chat Japanese vibe shop like you might find in Seattle or London or Paris. Its right on Kingara/James Gichuru and exposed to the road, which is slightly loud for working. Their stroke of genius, beyond the coffee quality, is that they have a really lovely mini-co-working space attached and it's very nice, like Ikigai level. I'm typing this from there and have worked here for a few hours."
"So easy to give Hikuri a 5-star review all around. The coffee is delicious (I had an Americano), and for a great decaf option in the evening try the Maisha Tonic with a touch of honey. The owner Karimi has done an excellent job laying out an excellent space for gathering with friends old and new. The atmosphere is a perfect blend of cozy, urban charm, and the welcome I got on my first visit was like I was family."
